Does Zephaniah predict the rapture?
Before I answered the questions for my prophet assignment, I read the book of Zephaniah. His writings are predictions of God’s wrath on his people. Although in the book he points out specific nations, I wondered if this is where people got the idea of the rapture. Much of the book tells of the “day of the Lord” when he will take his anger out on sinners. This sounded like everything I have been told about the rapture in church. Zephaniah’s prophecy is an important aspect of the Bible because I believe many people take what these three chapters are saying very seriously. Zephaniah’s writings make up part of the story of how many people believe the world will end.
An article on oneplace.com describes Zephaniah 3:9-10. The verse tells of the time when all people, including the gentiles, will worship the Lord. The second part of the verse tells of the people from far lands coming to join the worship of the Lord. The verses could be depicting what people will be doing after the “day of the Lord” or the rapture. Many articles, one being whenistherapture.com, I have found in my research use verses from Zephaniah to back up what verses in other books say about the “day of the Lord.” The rapture is not only predicted in Zephaniah but it is also predicted in many other books of the Bible. However, the Bible does not call this day the rapture but it refers to it as the “day of the Lord.” An article on biblicalresearch.info points out the many specific details that are in the prediction. Zephaniah plans a clear picture to the reader what God will do on this day to those who have not gained forgiveness and salvation.
